Earn Free Money Online With SEO

Tuesday, May 1, 2007

By: andrew jones

When I first started out with my internet home business, I spent lots of money on solo ezine ads, PPC ads, and so-called leads. Results were pretty average and not worth the money spent, so I began to look for ways to earn free money online. The idea is to utilize free methods of marketing your web site, such as blogging, article marketing and SEO (or search engine optimization). This means a greater profit yield and often better traffic rates in the long term. So, let's look more closely at SEO.

SEO is simply optimizing your site with the effective placement of relevant keywords and undertaking a linking campaign to increase the number of back-links pointing back to your site. This increases your ranking in the search engines, with the aim being to get on page 1 for your keyword phrase. If you can get on page 1 for your keyword, you will have lots of people clicking on your listing and visiting your site. Provided that you maintain this position, you can earn free money online indefinitely.

The first step in your SEO campaign is keyword research. Grab a pen and paper and write down all the keyword phrases you can think of, that visitors might type into a search engine to get information on your niche. Once you have your list, go to your favorite keyword suggestion tool and start entering your phrases into the tool. Each time you enter a phrase, it will give you a heap of other related keyword phrases as possible options.

I always target low-competition phrases that have had about 1000 searches in the past month. I then enter this phrase into the Google search engine, within inverted commas, to see how many other competing sites there are for this term. I try to aim for less than 100,000 results per phrase.

My strategy is to build a web page around each low-competition keyword phrase (and have lots of phrases). That way, if I can get just 20 visitors from the search engines per day for each page, and have at least 50 pages, this is a total of 1000 visitors per day to my site. To me, this is more achievable than targeting a highly-competitive phrase and working my butt off constantly to maintain a high ranking for that phrase. Now, let's look at on-page and off-page optimization.

On-page optimization is the work that you do on the actual web page itself. What you need to do is place your keyword phrase in your URL (if possible), in the title tag of the page, in the description tag and in the keywords tag, Then, sprinkle your keywords in the body of the text, in the first and last paragraphs, and make sure that you bold, underline or italicize the keyword phrase to give it more emphasis in the search engines. Don't over-do it though. I aim for about 1 to 2% keyword density on my pages.

Off-page optimization is basically your linking strategy. The more back links you have pointing to your site, generally the higher your ranking with the search engines. Two great ways to increase your links are by submitting your URL to the link directories (preferably with a high PR), and to write and submit articles (with a link pointing back to your site) to quality article directories.

Once you have implemented all the steps of your SEO campaign, you need to keep the momentum going. Keep adding more and more pages to your web site, targeting good keyword phrases, and continue getting more links pointing back to your site. The results and the pay-off are definitely worth it. There's nothing better than getting highly-targeted, free traffic from the search engines and earning free money online.

Meta Tags Are Important To Search Engines

By: David Fishman

When it comes to your Meta tags you want them to contain key information about your website as well as your top keywords. Make sure they keywords are in the title as well as in the body of the text. Make sure you write a description about your page using specific information and keywords, but keep it short and sweet.

All your keywords should always be relevant to the content within the page they describe. With the title tag, each search engine looks at it and uses it primarily the same way, to summarize and compile the websites contents for its search engine users. The how and where your keywords are in your title tag are the most important element with to which you can get benefit from using title tag. Choosing keywords is an essential part of producing a successful website.

When creating the title for the website makes sure you include keywords in the title that are on the page. There has been a lot of talk about title tags about how they are not important anymore, but in reality they are still important. On your page to properly place your title tag you should put it between the HEAD tags, one of the best place to include it is right after the HEAD tag.

Most of the SE use the meta title as the title of the page. When you do a search on search engines the title that is listed is the title on the website and sometime the Meta title is used. Once you understand why the title is so important, you can easily write more effective title tags. The title is so important because the first thing that a human searcher sees is the title. The Meta title is a critical factor in controlling where your site is listed in search engines.

In many results the Meta description will appear on the results page right under the title. The only caveat to remember is that your META description will only show if the search term is in the META description. Try to keep the title brief so it is not cut off in the results, it is best practice if you keep the description under 200 characters.. Your description contains your important key phrase and key words.

Place your description in the opening paragraph, if you do this the description is weighted heavier by search engines. Sometimes even google picks up description tag. Make sure that title and description is crafted neatly and attracts both visitors and search engines.

Bots have been spidering the web since the '90's, including pages into various collections. Pictures are worth 1000 words to you and me, but zero to a search engine. Even if you ensure you have completely relevant Meta Tags, some search engines will still ignore them. Always make sure that your meta tags do not have any line breaks. The more educated you are about what search engines are looking for, the better you will be able to respond and rise in the rankings.

If you only put the description in the Meta tag section, then the search engine robots will see it but many of your visitors will not. Don't hide this information in a place where your readers cannot see it. Meta tags are HTML elements used to provide structured metadata about a web page.

Using Meta tags is not some magic answer that everyone thinks it is. Meta Tags are most commonly used to distinguish the keywords that are relevant to a page's content. The robots do scan the Meta tags and some of the search engines will use the information from them. Meta tags are still important today, they might not be as important but you still need to use them if you want to compete with other sites.

The 'Human' Approach to Site Optimization

By: Scott T Smith

Most people online today continue to use search engines to find what they are looking for, as well as follow links from sites they trust. Let's discuss this 'trust' from the standpoint of positioning your Web business.

When you have generated traffic to your site, you need to give people what they are really looking for. In particular, you must deliver genuine answers and real benefits through your site copywriting.

This is a big stumbling block for those who use doorway pages to maximize their search engine positioning - without taking into account their human visitors.

You know clearly focused keywording throughout your site is fundamental to successful search engine positioning. So how do you write the words on your page to accent your site theme for the search engines, and more importantly, serve your customers?

Go Belly to Belly

The answer is to write for people first, not search engines. The Web business medium incessantly vies for our attention and fragments our thoughts. It's exhausting! Doesn't it make sense to create a Web site that offers shelter from the online storm?

A key marketing thought to consider is that a few hundred well-satisfied customers can feed you, clothe you, and take care of you into your ripe old age.

These 'customers for life' will only be yours if you and your Web site are personal service oriented. It's a powerful way to separate yourself from your competitors who think automation is the only answer for Web success.

Here are 10 key questions to help you with this approach. The answers you generate will inform your Web site writing.

o Your Product/Service

1. For your site visitors: What are the specific results/benefits you provide the people who buy from you?...

2. Your products and services: please list two short key phrases that describe exactly what you supply...

3. What's your single, most marketable, unique, competitive edge? This is your essential Unique Selling Proposition (USP).

4. Describe your product/service in detail...

A. List 7 features that jump out at you:

(A feature is a fact about a product or service, such as "wash cold, hang dry", or "made in Morocco". Features demonstrate how things are created, delivered and maintained.)

B. List 7 enormous benefits your products/services give your site visitors...

(A benefit is anything that will make someone's life better, easier or more productive by using your product or service.)

5. Which product/service is your 'best of the best' - your #1 most popular, profitable or marketable offering?...

o Your Site Visitor

6. Who is your perfect site visitor? Supply as much detail as you can: demographics (age, gender, employment, etc), geographics (location, country, city, etc), psychographics (interests, culture, lifestyle, etc)...

7. List 7 unique and interesting facts you really want site visitors to know about you and the products/services you provide...

8. List at least 7 of the most commonly asked questions about your products/services, as well as the answers you give...

9. List at least 7 of the most common misconceptions your site visitors have about your offerings...

10. What are the 3 specific things your target market most wants to know about or looks for in your product/service?...

The Wrap Up: Integrating Customer and Search Engine Needs

You've thought long and hard, you've dug deep. You've even asked your site visitors what they want! In the process you've generated the raw materials you need to write your site copy.

Here's how to use this information to please both site visitors and search engines:

A. Write for your audience - the people you need to reach. If you are writing sales copy, we recommend the template outlined here.

B. Use the excellent Overture keyword suggestion tool. You are researching which words people actually use when they look through a search engine to find what you offer.

C. Take the #1 word you find on Overture. Wherever it makes sense (and without becoming obnoxious), substitute this keyword for similiar words and phrasing within your site writing. Ideally you should try to achieve a 3-7% ratio of your keyword to the other words on your page. To measure your keyword density, visit Keywordensity.com. While you are at it, use this tool to check out your competitors under this keyword. Observe where and how they've used this keyword in their visible text and source code.

D. Re-optimize your pages around this single keyword, then hand-register these newly written pages with the major search engines.

This is the 'human' approach to site optimization. It's not scientific but it's fast, and can free up your time to move onto the other aspects of your Web business.

Search Engine Optimization Myths

Sunday, April 29, 2007

The secrets of getting a good page rank in Google is out in the open. Many who have achieved the coveted top ten positions have told us how they did it. But so many of us are confused by it and still believe some of the older myths that can be found everywhere. This article will expose some of the myths about search engine optimization.

Myth 1 - Only The Experts Can Do SEO Correctly

A couple of years ago this may have been true. But now, there is so much written about SEO and how to get it right, that there are few reasons remaining why you should not understand the basics of it. It is no longer necessary to seek an SEO company to optimize your website - unless you simply do not have the time to do it, but they will gladly take your money, one way or the other. It will take some reading, but after you find out each important thing, be sure to apply it to your web pages!

Myth 2 - Experts Can Guarantee A Number One Position

Not true - at least not in any way that will really matter. Your goal should be to get to the first page of the search engine results page (SERP) using the keywords that people would normally use when looking for the information that you offer. An SEO company may promise that you can have that position - by using keywords that don't really matter - so what.

Myth 3 - Just Put As Many Keywords On The Page As
Possible

The goal of the search engines is to provide people with valid information, not a bunch of incomprehensible garbage. The programmers of the search engines know this, and they also know that people (advertisers) will pay more for real results. Therefore they program their spiders to be able to detect between phony pages and real content. You win when you give people what they want and use a keyword frequency of about 4-6%, or one keyword phrase per paragraph, or just slightly less than that.

Myth 4 - Search Engine Optimization Is Not As
Effective As Marketing

In both cases, it depends on how each tool is used - either one can be done poorly and have poor results. On the other hand, excellent marketing can be greatly profitable, and so can good search engine optimization tactics. But what is even better - is an excellent combination of both. Having excellent SEO web pages will definitely help bring in greater traffic from the SERP results - this is what you want. The truth is that SEO tactics should be considered an essential part of your marketing campaign. General marketing works by targeting a lot of people - many of which are not interested. But search engine optimization strategies that bring a good page rank will bring to your door people who are definitely interested in your information, and possibly your products. They are a targeted audience that you can profit from by a newsletter, or other similar means.

Myth 5 - Any Keyword That Brings Traffic Is Good

This is definitely not the case. Good traffic may not mean anything when it comes to dollars and cents. It only means that they are interested in the keyword you used. The goal needs to be conversion - how many visitors on average does it take to make a sale. This should indicate to you that further search engine optimization is needed. For some reason, your visitors may not be buying. If you are using pay per click, it means you may be drawing the wrong crowd. By learning more, you can fine tune your pages and keyword list, and get the results you need.

Search engine myths remain because those who should know better simply aren't taking the time to study. Search engine optimization "secrets" are really not secrets at all -but can be found all over the Web - just waiting for you to learn them.

Internet Marketing With Seo Tactics

By: Jeremiah Patton

Hearing the acronym SEO is not new for most Internet marketers. In fact, it is one of the unwritten protocols that must be learned and kept in mind by every aspiring Internet marketer. Thus, if you are unfamiliar with SEO, you will experience difficulty in terms of achieving your Internet marketing business objectives.

Before discussing SEO to Internet marketing beginners, let us first tackle search engines. If you are familiar with Yahoo, Google, or MSN, these are some of the widely used search engines on the Internet. If you are looking for any information on the Internet, search engines will always be your first and probably your sole option. You will just type several words that are related to the information you are looking for on the search box, and when you click the "search button", you will be redirected to a page that contains listings of websites containing the words that you type on the search box.

Because of the popularity of search engines to Internet users, Internet marketers consider it as one of the primary tools in getting online buyers. Thus, it paved the way to the birth of SEO as an essential attribute on Internet marketing. The acronym stands for search engine optimization, which is the art of producing web pages that will have high rankings on related search engine results. It is accomplished through optimization of several sections or elements in the HTML coding of every web page. Search engines specifically interpret such sections, and the latter will rank the former according to its level of optimization.

There are various methods and opinions on how a certain webpage should be optimized. Such methods and opinions will heavily dependent on the type website you have, its contents, the purpose of its existence, and the existing competition. However, when speaking about general SEO, it heavily depends on the proper use of certain keywords and/or key phrases that are used to describe your website's content.

Probably you will wonder how these keywords affect the SEO performance of your Internet marketing website. When you search for needed information using several words, you will notice that such words are "highlighted" when search results are displayed. The words that you type on the search box serves as the "keywords" that is utilized by webmasters in optimizing their websites. Although it may not be of importance to an Internet user, but it is as good as "gold" for Internet marketers who want their site to be shown on the top pages of every related search engine result.

Keywords that are used in SEO have standard placements on a website. For instance, such keywords must appear on the title section of your webpage's source code. Moreover, it must appear on the META description section wherein the page is described in an accurate manner by repeating the selected keywords. The META section often contains the keywords that are used to describe your site's content and its product or service.

If you will carefully analyze the previous discussion, you will notice that the performance of the site's SEO heavily depends on the keywords that you are using. Thus, the main keywords or key phrases must appear on the first 2 paragraphs of the content of every page, and then scatter it throughout the rest of the page. In scattering your main keywords, make sure that it will be an integral part of the content itself. It must appear as if it is among the original content of the page.

In addition, the last paragraph of each page must be keyword-rich. One of the unwritten rules involving keyword placement is that the keywords density of your page must be between 5 to 15 percent. Although it is advised that you maximize the use of your keywords, avoid using it excessively. A content with keyword density above the standard will not help on the optimization of your website.

Another consideration in SEO performance of your site is the placement of relative back links, or hyperlinks directing to external sites. It is relatively important since search engine spiders navigate through links. In addition, the text of your page relating to external links may also contain keywords.

If you are one of the aspiring Internet marketers who want to take the challenge of earning on the Internet, do not ever forget the acronym that will lead you to the success of your Internet marketing career-SEO.
